Communications Director and Web Designer/Developer

I design, develop and maintain the websites for the Nutrition Studies Research Group within the Department of Medicine. I ensure they are all highly usable and work well on all web devices. I write copy to promote the research and highlight the accolades of the Group for use on websites and social media. In addition, I create original illustrations, graphic and web designs to support the research, marketing, academic, and administrative needs of the Group.

Own and manage business, specializing in graphic and web design, marketing and communication. Projects encompass print, branding, illustration, animation, web design and development, video and multimedia production. Handle all aspects of growing business, including: customer service, business development, accounting and employee hiring and training. Clients include: Air Pacific, Canary Foundation, Carl’s Jr., Hardee’s, NFL Network, Nobel Foundation, Qantas, Stanford University, Tourism Australia, UCLA, UC San Diego, USC.

From 2003-2019, I provided technical and creative marketing and communication direction for the Stanford Department of Radiology and its clinical and research divisions; worked with leadership and senior management to determine marketing goals and recommend strategies to meet those goals; collected and visualized data to provide department chair overviews of the status of the department including details of personnel, funding, resource allocation and alumni; collaborated internally and with external agencies to create original marketing content to distribute across multiple channels, including social media, web, video, and print to effectively advertise and promote the department; identified and trained section leads to maintain public websites; meet regularly to review progress and set goals to ensure up-to-date content; created original illustrations and animations for publication and advertising.

• As brand ambassador, created marketing content to promote departmental accolades both internally and externally across multiple channels (web, email, social media, print and video)
• Led migration of Stanford Radiology’s web properties from static, template-driven websites to dynamic, responsive content management systems: included content inventories and audits, and the creation of sitemaps based on updated information architecture all with an eye on the user experience
• Sole illustrator of over 300 illustrations for the Molecular Imaging Primer textbook as well as numerous works featured as journal covers

Web/Graphic Designer and Developer, Illustrator

Designed, built and maintained leading-edge, high quality, attractive, and highly usable web properties that worked well on all web devices and met current business needs. Also created, set up, and developed various web services and features for new and existing websites within the Department. Created editorial to promote the research and highlight the accolades of the faculty and staff for use on websites and social media. Developed, oversaw, trained, and maintained a centralized calendaring system for internal and external events. Created original illustrations, graphic and web designs, and a variety of design projects to support the research, marketing, academic, and administrative needs of the Department.

Senior Designer/Developer

Radiology Department, UC San Diego School of Medicine, San Diego, CA (Jan 2011-Oct 2011)

Entrusted to overhaul the clinical and research websites and develop marketing strategies for the Department of Radiology: provided direction on server platform; analyzed existing assets and established information architecture to ensure scalable, SEO-friendly sites; initiated communication with strategic division and subdivision personnel to assess requirements and develop content; initiated and tracked site analytics; led design providing consistent branding across all sites.

Designer/Developer

Marketing & Communications Department, UC San Diego Health System, San Diego, CA (Jan 2010-Aug 2010)

Designed, developed and deployed Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS 2007) content managed websites (CMS) advancing the UC San Diego Health Sciences website unification strategy: provided consistent branding and user experience across all internal- and external-facing UC San Diego Health System website properties; wrote and organized website content; provided client with instructions for maintenance of live website.

• Sole designer and developer of the original Jacobs Medical Center website

Managed Technical Division resources and assignments for innovative new media agency. Worked with other division managers to identify technical resource requirements and allocation. Evaluated, established and maintained technical development policies, methodologies, and procedures. Communicated the technical aspects of projects to clients and prospective clients in clear understandable terms.

• Researched, documented and implemented best practices across all email marketing campaigns (>200K emails/month)
